Scottish Events prides itself on helping each member of a team recognise their strengths. When they return to the workplace they can utilise this and in term increase productivity. After the team-building event attended by Pointblank Media’s Managing Director and members of staff they stated they felt more motivated and ready for a challenge. They were invigorated and ready to undertake their company objectives. The brief from Pointblank Media was a team-building day outwith the workplace that would be fun but still effective. To make the team more cohesive and for each member of staff identify strengths and weaknesses. They also asked us to identify who were leaders and who were players. No classroom environments for this company!!!!
The day started out as a mystery for all employees. They arrived at the venue to find out their day was to be a Master and Mistress Chef Day!! The group were split up into two teams by randomly drawing names ready for the challenge.
Each team were given an allotted time and limited ingredients to prepare a three-course meal, which that evening would be served by our waiters from Scottish Events to all team-building participants. The menu had to be set to consider things such as their opposing teams likes, dislikes and any special diets – no mean feat considering they were cooking for their opponents! During this “mission” leaders were identified who would coordinate the project and identify, by looking at each individuals strengths and weaknesses who were best placed to be chefs, table planners and even who best to design the menu for the table!! They had an incentive to be the winning team - a magnum of champagne from their MD to enjoy with their meal that night.
At the end of the “mission”, a local Michelin hotel chef marked them on the originality of the menu how it reflected the others teams tastes and if they achieved their task in the allotted time. To their immense surprise some delicious food was prepared which exceeded their expectations. “Dish of the day” was the paprika chicken from Team B. Much fun was had in the kitchen but it did not end there. At night after they had set up their tables our waiters were on hand to allow them time to relax and reflect on their days work by serving their aperitifs, food and fine wines. Needless to say Team B who won enjoyed it even more with their fine Magnum of Champagne.
Managing Director, Pauline Duncan, commented that the team thoroughly enjoyed their day and felt it had made them much more cohesive and respectful of their colleagues needs in the workplace. She also felt she knew her employees better from being there on the day and work productivity and performance has increased since.
So much so she has re-booked for two more company Team Building days, 4 x 4 Road Challenges and the Painting Workshop day.
